CLIMAX EXPECTED SOON
LONDON, Saturday.-A climax in iRusso-German relations is believed to be fast approaching and the critical period is expected to be between June 15 and July 10. Meanwhile it iS repoirted from Ankara that Germany has resumed her wooing of Turkey, the Nazis stating that they do not wish to attack her and that their policy in the Middle East is being deliberately misinterpreted.
Although the Mhoscow radio has broadcast an official denial that the Germans are threatening Russia, reliable reports received by ''The Times" correspondent at Ankara emph'tically contradict the theory that the German army's tremendous suppriority over the Red Army has so scared Russia that she will do anything to stave off'a German attack.
The Soviet is reported to have constidered the establishment of..German military and political power in the Balkans so prejudicial to her interests and the situation arising from it so grave that Stalin was induced to assume oflicial power in order to cope personally with the new situation, which is fraught with so much danger.
Favours Peace Stalin is believed to be genuinely in favour of peace and certainly would not undertake a policy of aggression, but would never accept conditions which openly or covertly.curtail Russia's independence and" place her under foreign subjugation. Stalin knows that German control, however cleverly disguised, would mean that.
Russia might agree to minor concesslons, but would rather fight than sacrifice her sovereign rights. Stalin is retorting to German efforts to launch a Russian Asiatic military adventure with the suggestion that Germany might try her. hand against Britain.
It is now reliably stated that German concentrations along the Soviet frontier from the Baltic to the Black Sea total 120 divisions. Russia is believed to have concentrated 140 divisions along the German-Rumanian frontier.
Many still believe that the German concentrations are meant to screen another major military enterprise, probably against Britain, and are
simultaneously designed to obtain from -Russia closer political and economic co-operation.
